In the research I did for the final draft of the intro. and conclusion chapters of my book, I came across references to oral cancers that had been linked to strains of HPV that could also infect anogenital tissue. According to recent research, it seems that oral sex may be the mode of transmission. So, it's all the more important that sexual health educators discuss the risks of oral sex. As a former sex educator, I remember it was always so hard to sell anyone on the idea of practicing safer-oral-sex -- no matter how many flavored condoms, dental dams, and lube samples we handed out. But, if people start dying from throat cancer, then will the public finally be ready to put their common sense where their mouth is?
